A GUIDE TO SPRING WEDDING FLOWERS

Updated: Sep 15

Planning your dream wedding in the springtime means you're in for a treat when it comes to choosing your wedding flowers. As nature wakes up after her long winter sleep, the flower farms are filled with delicate blooms, vibrant greenery and romantic blossom. So wether you're planning soft and elegant neutrals, pastels or colour pops, there is loads of simply fantastic options. Here's my overview of the best flowers for your Cotswolds wedding, along with ideas for how you can use them to enhance your wedding.

Why choose Seasonal flowers?

When selecting flowers for your wedding, it’s essential to consider the season, as this will influence the types of blooms available, their quality, and even your budget. Opting for seasonal spring flowers not only ensures you have the freshest, most vibrant blooms but can also bring a unique charm to your celebration that perfectly aligns with nature’s natural rhythm and feel 'right' for the light and atmosphere of a spring day.

Spring Wedding Flowers (March - May)

Spring is the season of renewal and fresh beginnings, making it the perfect time to celebrate love. In the Cotswolds, this season comes alive with a stunning variety of delicate and fragrant flowers, perfect for creating a light and romantic atmosphere.

Popular Spring Wedding Flowers:

  • Ranunculus: Elegant and layered, these blooms resemble roses and come in a variety of pastel and bright colours, ideal for adding texture to bouquets and centrepieces. I love all ranunculus - the delicate pale pink 'Hanoi' to the punchy orange of 'Lambada.'

  • Fritillaries: Known for their unique, bell-shaped blooms, they add a touch of whimsy to any arrangement.

  • Tulips: A wedding classic, tulips bring a clean and elegant look, available in a range of shades to match your wedding colour palette.

  • Narcissi: These delicate daffodils symbolise rebirth and new beginnings, making them perfect for spring weddings. My go to narcissi is called 'Bridal Crown' - a delicate cream with the most intoxicating scent.

  • Syringa (Lilac): Fragrant and romantic, lilacs add a timeless quality to floral arrangements. My fav variety is called Maiden's Blush - a soft creamy pink bloom.

  • Blossom: A short but glorious season, we source our white and pink cherry blossom from Covent Garden market - it makes the most amazing wedding arches and clouds.

  • Hellebores; Shyly nodding flowers, these are the first to appear after Christmas. They come in white, pinks and ruby reds.

  • Viburnum: The fresh zingy lime green pompon flowers add real vibrancy to a table centrepiece design.

Tips for Spring Weddings:

  • Consider a cascading bouquet of tulips and ranunculus, accented with delicate narcissi for a soft, elegant look.

  • For outdoor venues in the Cotswolds, line the ceremony aisle with meadow designs filled with tulips or fritillaries for a fresh and enchanting atmosphere.

  • For a memorable flower arch, opt for branches of cherry blossom in white, pale pink or rich pink to nail a totally spring vibe.

  • Create lush table centrepieces with syringa and ranunculus, complemented by soft greenery like ferns for a garden-inspired feel or bud vases with narcissi and blossom.
